Depot to Close All 24 Stores in Austria

Home accessories retailer Depot will exit the Austrian market by January 2027, resulting in 140 job losses and a surge in online scams.

Home accessories chain Depot has announced a complete withdrawal from the market. The company confirmed that all 24 remaining branches in Austria will close by January 31, 2027. This decision will result in the loss of approximately 140 jobs.

The official Depot online shop has been inactive since late September, leading to a rise in fraudulent activity. Scammers are using videos to advertise fake discounts of up to 80 percent, luring users to deceptive domains like depot-official.com.

Depot is warning customers that these fake websites are exploiting the company's insolvency. Those who have already fallen for these scams are advised to contact their banks immediately. The retailer emphasizes that no legitimate online sales are active.
