Federal Solar Funding to Shift to Storage Bonuses

Starting in 2027, the federal government will replace PV investment subsidies with bonuses for intelligent storage and control systems.

The federal government will restructure the solar funding system starting in 2027, replacing current PV investment subsidies with bonuses for intelligent storage. The shift follows a 2026 funding call where 28,000 applications exhausted funds in 33 seconds.

State Secretary Elisabeth Zehetner (ÖVP) and Michaela Schmidt (SPÖ) noted the new model focuses on storage and intelligent control systems. Requirements include an energy management system and European-produced inverters for new installations to get bonuses.

The new system uses an ongoing application model, allowing for post-implementation filings. While Karin Doppelbauer (Neos) notes a two-thirds parliamentary majority is required, the final call under the current system is scheduled for this October 8.
