Austria Unveils New Grid Fee Regulation for 2028

E-Control and Minister Hattmannsdorfer announce a new 50:50 energy-power price ratio to save 300 million euros in annual grid costs.

E-Control board members Michael Strebl and Alfons Haber, alongside Economic Affairs Minister Wolfgang Hattmannsdorfer, presented the SNE-G-V on October 12, 2026. This regulation establishes a 50:50 ratio between energy and power prices for household users.

Grid operators must implement the new pricing by July 1, 2028. The power price will track the highest monthly 15-minute value. New incentives include a 20 percent summer energy price reduction and a winter low-energy price starting in 2027 for specific hours.

E-Control expects the measure to save 300 million euros in annual grid costs. Customers with 4kW capacity can get a 75 percent power price cut by allowing grid control. System-serving storage systems will also receive lower grid fees for a 20-year period.
