Foodora Bans E-Mopeds Following New Road Rules

Foodora shifts its entire fleet to bicycles and e-bikes as new Austrian regulations ban e-mopeds from bike paths starting October 1.

Starting October 1, 2026, new Austrian road regulations will ban e-mopeds from bike paths. Drivers must now possess a license, insurance, and helmets. In response, Foodora Managing Director Dragan Milovanovic announced a total fleet shift to e-bikes and bikes.

Foodora couriers, who operate as permanent employees or free service providers, were notified of these changes in June 2026. Using e-mopeds after the deadline constitutes a breach of contract and may lead to the immediate termination of employment status.

To support this transition, Foodora is investing millions through 2027 and partnering with Cycle for discounted rentals. The company also offers a 50 euro bonus for completing road safety training organized with the Federal Ministry for Mobility and Innovation.
