Mediterranean Heat Fuels Severe Storms in Europe

Meteorologist Marcus Wadsak warns of extreme rainfall in Crete and Southern France as local weather remains sunny and warm through Saturday.

ORF meteorologist Marcus Wadsak reports that the Mediterranean Sea is currently extremely warm, fueling severe weather. Heavy thunderstorms in Southern France are expected to produce over 160 liters of rain, while Crete faces over 400 liters by Monday.

Wadsak described the predicted rainfall for Crete as problematic large quantities arriving in a short time. Meanwhile, local forecasts show sunny late summer conditions through Wednesday with highs of 25 degrees Celsius and a moderate southeast wind.

The stable weather continues through Saturday with temperatures reaching 26 degrees. While clouds and fog may appear near the Alps, sunshine will dominate the region. These conditions contrast sharply with the extreme precipitation hitting the Mediterranean.
