Vienna ÖVP Unveils Green Vision for Erdberg Site

A new architectural proposal by HMA Architektur suggests transforming the Erdberg bus terminal into a 4,000-square-meter green space.

The Vienna ÖVP has unveiled a new architectural design for the Vienna International Busterminal site in Erdberg. Commissioned from HMA Architektur, the proposal suggests unsealing and planting 4,000 square meters of the 13,000-square-meter area under the motorway.

Vienna currently operates three terminals, but a new central hub is under construction at Handelskai. Following a December 2025 groundbreaking, the 160-million-euro project is set for completion by 2029. The site was cleared by moving a Sport-&-Fun-Halle.

Planning spokesperson Elisabeth Olischar presented the vision for the Asfinag-owned site, which is leased to Blaguss until 2035. As structural work begins at Handelskai in 2026, this proposal offers a green future for the Erdberg area once operations shift.
