WKO to Finalize New Compliance and Salary Rules

President Martha Schultz leads the Austrian Economic Chamber in approving transparency reforms and a new wage-linked salary formula.

The Austrian Economic Chamber (WKO) is set to finalize new compliance rules and a revised salary adjustment formula on October 7, 2026. President Martha Schultz, an ÖVP member who took office a year ago, will lead the expanded presidium in these approvals.

The reforms follow the resignation of former President Harald Mahrer amid public debate over official remuneration. Future WKO salary adjustments will now be tied to collective agreement wage developments, which currently cover 95 percent of Austrian workers.

New compliance standards will govern contract awards, gifts, and nominations to ensure transparency. These measures, following the resignation of Vienna Economic Chamber head Walter Ruck, aim to establish uniform standards and traceable responsibilities.
