Austria Launches 10 Days Against Phishing Campaign

Interior Ministry initiates a nationwide anti-phishing drive as annual cybercrime damages in Austria reach 19 million euros.

The Austrian Ministry of the Interior launched the 10 Days Against Phishing initiative on October 9, 2026, as phishing damages reached 19 million euros. Federal Criminal Police Office head Andreas Holzer reported over 5,000 cases filed during the year.

Minister Gerhard Karner highlighted a specific scam involving fake ID-Austria expiration texts, which defrauded 100 victims of 500,000 euros. To combat this, specialized cybercrime training centers are opening in Tyrol and across all states through 2027.

National Bank Governor Martin Kocher noted that 350,000 fraudulent transactions occurred in 2025, with 83 percent involving induced transfers. The Platform Against Phishing, founded in 2023, now coordinates 60 stakeholders to protect payment systems.
