Austrian Real Estate Prices Hit Record Highs

Statistik Austria reports house and apartment prices rose 3.9 percent in early 2026, surpassing previous peaks set in 2022.

Statistik Austria reported Wednesday that purchase prices for houses and apartments rose 3.9 percent in the first half of 2026 compared to 2025. Existing real estate prices grew by 4.0 percent, while new housing costs increased by 3.8 percent in this period.

Director General Manuela Lenk noted the house price index reached its highest level since 2010. Second-quarter growth was particularly strong, with existing home prices jumping 5.1 percent and new housing rising 4.9 percent, surpassing the 2022 peak levels.

The owner-occupied housing index also rose 2.9 percent in early 2026, outpacing 2025 growth. This index tracks acquisition fees, insurance, and repairs. The House Price Index has monitored residential real estate price trends across Austria since March 2015.
