Dornauer Proposes Relaxing Truck Night Driving Ban

Tyrolean MP Georg Dornauer suggests allowing Sunday night transit on the A12 and A13 motorways to address ongoing legal and toll issues.

Georg Dornauer, a free member of the Tyrolean state parliament and former Deputy Governor, is advocating for a relaxation of the truck night driving ban. He proposes allowing continuous driving on Sundays starting at 10:00 PM on the A12 and A13 motorways.

The current ban runs from 11:00 PM to 5:00 AM on Sundays and holidays. Dornauer suggests doubling night tolls, implementing noise protection, and prioritizing emission-free vehicles. Currently, electric and hydrogen trucks already have specific exemptions.

This proposal comes as Italy files a transit lawsuit and the EU Advocate General labels the ban contrary to law. Despite this, Governor Anton Mattle and the ÖVP-Social Democrat coalition intend to maintain existing transit emergency measures in the region.
