The European Commission opens DiscoverEU applications for 18-year-olds to win travel passes across 36 countries starting March 2027.

The European Commission launched a new DiscoverEU application round on Thursday, October 1, 2026, offering 41,000 free train tickets to young Europeans. Eligible applicants born in 2008 must apply online by October 15 and complete a quiz to secure a pass.

Winners can travel for up to 30 days between March 2027 and May 2028 across 36 countries. The program includes a youth card for discounts on transport and food, while the top 250 applicants receive a hostel stay. The UK will join the initiative in 2027.

Since 2018, DiscoverEU has issued 500,000 passes to foster cultural exchange. Participants, including those with disabilities, are encouraged to share their journeys via #DiscoverEU. A new route will highlight sites holding the European Heritage Label.
