FPÖ Calls for New Elections Amid SPÖ Crisis

FPÖ General Secretary Michael Schnedlitz demands immediate elections as the SPÖ prepares for a leadership summit amid internal instability.

FPÖ General Secretary Michael Schnedlitz has officially called for immediate new elections as political tensions rise. The demand comes ahead of a scheduled SPÖ crisis summit this Sunday, where the party faces internal pressure regarding its leadership.

A recent OGM survey for ServusTV reveals 45 percent of SPÖ voters favor Andreas Babler, while only 16 percent support Gerhard Zeiler. Despite Zeiler's open letter seeking member support, 73 percent of respondents would not recognize him on the street.

Finance Minister Markus Marterbauer stated the SPÖ does not need this debate while Austria faces an EU deficit procedure. The instability persists as FPÖ Chancellor candidate Herbert Kickl positions his party for a potential shift in national governance.
