A 34-year-old Iranian man was arrested Friday night following a stabbing in Vienna's Alsergrund district. The incident occurred around 8:30 PM on Widerhofergasse, where the suspect allegedly stabbed a 36-year-old man in the thigh before fleeing the scene.
Emergency services were alerted by an acquaintance of the victim. Vienna Professional Rescue provided on-site medical care before transporting the man to a hospital. A large-scale search involving the WEGA special unit eventually located the suspect's vehicle.
Police apprehended the suspect when he returned to his car near Matzleinsdorfer Platz in the Margareten district. While the 34-year-old is currently in custody, authorities report that the knife used in the Alsergrund attack has not yet been recovered.
