Khom Proposes Shortening Summer Holidays

Styrian Vice Governor Manuela Khom has proposed reducing summer break to seven weeks to combat rising heat and improve school schedules.

Vice Governor and chairwoman Manuela Khom has officially proposed shortening the summer holiday period to seven weeks. In a written demand to Education Minister , Khom suggested moving the start date one week earlier and reducing the total break by two weeks.

The Vice Governor cited increasing summer heat as a primary reason for the adjustment, noting that shorter holidays would provide relief for families. Khom also pointed out that the current autumn break occurs too soon after the summer holidays, creating an inefficient schedule for students.

The proposal aims to restructure the academic calendar to achieve longer, more consistent learning phases throughout the autumn months. By shifting the timeline, Khom intends to optimize educational outcomes while addressing the practical challenges posed by rising seasonal temperatures.
