Lower Austria Reviews Emergency Care Reform Plan

State Councilor Eva Prischl has ordered a technical review of the planned emergency medical restructuring originally set for April 2027.

is reevaluating its emergency medical care reform, originally set for April 1, 2027. State Councilor Eva Prischl has commissioned the Austrian Society for Emergency and Disaster Medicine to conduct a technical review of the planned structure.

The restructuring involves closing 11 emergency doctor bases while establishing 26 paramedic-led locations. However, legal anchoring for certified paramedics remains a federal task, and air rescue infrastructure will not be fully ready by the 2027 deadline.

Prischl has asked rescue organizations to pause irreversible measures during this review period. While the reform aims for 86 RTW-C sites by 2030, a postponement is possible as officials weigh legal concerns and demands from critics to cancel the plan.
