Lower Austria is expanding its tumor network under the Health Plan 2040+ to address rising cancer rates. State Councilor Anton Kasser noted that 9,700 residents are diagnosed annually. The network currently includes seven certified centers across the region.
The system utilizes tumor boards to determine therapies based on specific cancers and patient health. A nationwide hematological board launched in 2026 has helped 1,000 patients. New certifications for lung, brain, and nervous system tumors are also planned.
With 75 percent of diagnoses expected to affect those over 65 by 2040, the LGA is prioritizing cross-site collaboration. Experts like Birgit Grünberger and Josef Singer emphasize that these specialized centers ensure high-quality care for the aging population.
