National Council to Debate New Fuel Price Brake

The National Council meets Monday to discuss a fuel tax cut and margin limits aimed at providing over 12 cents of relief per liter.

The National Council will hold a special session Monday to discuss a new fuel price brake for October and November. The plan includes a 6.7-cent mineral oil tax cut and a 3.5-cent margin limit, aiming for a total relief of over 12 cents per liter of fuel.

Die Grünen budget spokesperson Jakob Schwarz demands a higher margin limit for oil companies, noting diesel margins rose from 15 cents before the Iran war to 50 cents now. The party also seeks to expand windfall taxes to include gas and district heating.

Mobility spokesperson Elisabeth Götze calls for price brakes on KlimaTickets and regional passes to aid students and seniors. Additionally, the party advocates for extending electricity levy reductions to provide continued relief for households and the economy.
