The ÖAMTC issued a safety warning in October 2026 for the Britax Römer Baby-Safe Pro + Vario Base 5Z and Axkid Minikid Core child seats. Both models failed frontal impact tests, which simulate high-speed collisions by accelerating a sled to 50 km/h before braking.
During testing, the Britax Römer harness buckle opened, ejecting the dummy. The Axkid Minikid Core suffered a retracted support leg and a buckle that broke from the seat shell. Axkid has halted sales and is offering customers an exchange for the Minikid 4 Pro.
These tests use forces exceeding UN Regulation 129 legal standards to match Euro NCAP severity. ÖAMTC technician Steffan Kerbl noted the results highlight critical defects. Full test data for all models will be officially published on October 20, 2026.
