The ÖAMTC and partner clubs conducted a comprehensive 2026 winter tire test evaluating 32 models across two dimensions: 185/65 R15 and 225/50 R17. Results show six tires earned a 'good' rating, while twelve were 'satisfactory' and nine were rated 'insufficient'.
In the 225/50 R17 category, Pirelli, Continental, Goodyear, and Michelin models led with 'good' ratings. For the 185/65 R15 size, Continental and Michelin also topped the list. Notably, no 185/65 R15 tire achieved a 'good' rating for environmental balance.
The evaluation focused on driving safety and environmental factors like mileage and noise. While Sunwide and Rockblade models excelled in snow performance, both were rated 'insufficient' overall. Average mileage for the 185/65 R15 tires was 31,000 kilometers.
