Vienna is expanding its legal graffiti program, known as Wienerwände, by adding six new locations to the existing 23 sites. The expansion includes Karlsplatz, the Donauinsel, and two municipal housing complexes, providing more space for urban street art.
Managed by WienXtra-Jugendinfo under Claudia Regan since 2025, these walls are marked with a pigeon symbol and listed on the city map. The project grew from the Kinder- und Jugendmillion initiative, allowing artists to paint for free without registration.
The Wienerwände system, active since 2005, allows older works to be painted over to foster creativity. While open to all, the city strictly prohibits commercial advertising as well as any discriminatory or inciting content on these public legal art spaces.
