Vienna's Stadtpark Expands by 1,000 Square Meters

The Wiener Stadtgärten has unsealed a former operational area on the Ringstraße to create new green space in the historic public park.

Vienna's oldest public park, the , has officially expanded by nearly 1,000 square meters. The Wiener Stadtgärten unsealed a former operational area on the side to create this new green space, which features lawns, shrubs, and two new trees.

The site previously housed a hexagonal engine house from 1862 until its 1935 demolition. Following World War II, the City Gardens used the land for operational buildings. Director Karl Hawliczek and District Chairman oversaw the recent renovation.

To improve the visitor experience, a new hill with shrubs shields the area from Ring traffic noise. The expansion includes an automatic irrigation system to maintain the greenery. While the city has not disclosed the project cost, the park is now fully open.
