AMS to Repay 135 Million Euros to 250,000 People

The Austrian Public Employment Service will automatically refund benefits following a court ruling on incorrect insurance deductions.

The (AMS) must repay approximately 135 million euros to 250,000 people following a ruling. The decision stems from a case involving a woman whose benefits were incorrectly calculated.

The court ruled that socially staggered insurance contributions must be factored into benefit calculations. The AMS had improperly deducted a flat three percent contribution from individuals earning below the 1,828 euro exemption limit for three years.

Affected individuals do not need to apply for the funds, as the AMS will automatically recalculate and transfer the missing money. Minister and the government are now finalizing legal regulations for the average 540 euro repayments.
