Austrian Health Report 2026 Shows Gender Gap

A new study reveals only 41 percent of women are satisfied with Austria's healthcare system amid reports of dismissed medical symptoms.

The Austrian Health Report 2026, presented on October 7, 2026, reveals a significant gender gap in healthcare satisfaction. Conducted by IFES for Sandoz, the study shows 56 percent of men are satisfied with the system, compared to only 41 percent of women.

Findings indicate 44 percent of women have had pain ignored during treatment, while 36 percent report symptoms dismissed as psychosomatic. Women also carry a heavier burden, with 58 percent managing household care tasks compared to just 21 percent of men.

Public sentiment remains critical of systemic issues, as 82 percent believe wealthier patients receive faster treatment. Additionally, 89 percent of respondents support health insurance funds prioritizing medications produced within Europe to ensure supply.
