Austrian National Council to Pass New Laws

Lawmakers meet to debate inmate transfers, organ trade bans, and new photovoltaic regulations during this week's plenary sessions.

The Austrian National Council is convening for plenary sessions this Wednesday and Thursday to address several legislative updates. Key developments include a new regulation allowing the transfer of prison inmates to their home countries after serving half their sentence without consent, excluding violent, sexual, or terror offenders.

Lawmakers are also introducing criminal offenses against organ brokerage and illegal organ trade. Additionally, the Trade Regulation Act reform will permit the installation of photovoltaic systems without permits under specific conditions and allow alpine pastures to serve open drinks. ID Austria will now be used for age verification at machines.

The sessions involve setting a 14-year term limit for Financial Market Authority board members and establishing a standardized damage database at GeoSphere. Political tension remains high as the Freedom Party of Austria plans a motion of no confidence against the government, following a leadership change within the Social Democrats.
