FPÖ Rejects Government Military Service Reform

FPÖ defense spokesperson Volker Reifenberger confirms no consensus was reached on the proposed '6+3' military and civilian service model.

FPÖ defense spokesperson Volker Reifenberger announced that no consensus was reached in negotiations regarding the planned military service reform. The government initially negotiated internally before involving the FPÖ, which is open to further talks.

The government agreed on a '6+3' model during the summer council of ministers, planning to extend civilian service if basic military service numbers fall below a specific value. A two-thirds majority is required to implement changes to civilian service.

Constitutional spokesperson Michael Schilchegger and Reifenberger demand an immediate extension of civilian service due to current trends. Reifenberger criticized the government's proposal, describing it as merely the smallest common denominator available.
