Professional associations representing judges and public prosecutors have announced a nationwide protest scheduled for mid-October. From October 12 to October 16, no court hearings will be held, no decisions issued, and no official appointments granted.
The demonstration highlights critical staff shortages within the judiciary. While 1,478 judges are currently employed at district and regional courts, Ministry of Justice calculations and Judges' Association President Gernot Kanduth cite a need for 1,700.
This action follows the 2026/27 double budget's failure to include new permanent positions. With the average workload currently at 120 percent, officials warn that the lack of resources threatens the system's ability to function effectively and sustainably.
