ÖGK Issues 87,000 Invoices for Patient Transport

The Austrian Health Insurance Fund begins billing for non-acute patient transports conducted during the second quarter of 2026.

The Austrian Health Insurance Fund (ÖGK) is issuing approximately 87,000 invoices for planned patient transports conducted between April and June 2026. These bills, sent in tranches starting mid-October, apply to non-acute trips without medical urgency.

Costs are based on prescription fees, totaling 7.55 euros without a paramedic or 15.10 euros with one. Children and those exempt from prescription fees are excluded. A maximum of 28 trips are billed annually, with payments due within 30 days of receipt.

While time-critical transports remain free, these quarterly invoices reflect policy changes enacted in July 2025. Over 4,000 bills will be sent via e-Zustellung, and installment plans are available for any outstanding balances that exceed 151 euros.
