The Wiener Neustadt city council passed a measure on Monday to equip all state kindergartens and schools with air conditioning. This initiative, titled 'Heiße Tage – coole Kids,' involves a 300,000 Euro investment to upgrade 25 local educational facilities.
The project utilizes a 283,500 Euro budget, with funding secured through 2027. Split units will be installed over three years, powered by photovoltaic systems. Priority is given to kindergartens hosting summer care, as only seven sites currently have cooling.
This local action coincides with federal debates on mandatory cooling laws for schools and nursing homes. The city government, led by the ÖVP, SPÖ, and FPÖ, is now formally requesting state and federal funding to support these essential climate measures.
