Austria Reports 33% Rise in Discrimination Cases

The Gleichbehandlungsanwaltschaft reported a significant rise in discrimination cases and inquiries during 2024 and 2025. Women's Minister Eva-Maria Holzleitner submitted the Equal Treatment Report to Parliament, documenting 9,268 total inquiries processed.

Data shows inquiries rose by 31 percent while discrimination cases grew by 33 percent. Of the 1,975 supported cases, 46 percent involved gender and 33 percent ethnic origin. Notably, 73 percent of all cases were linked to the workplace and professional life.

The Equal Treatment Commission faces growing pressure as Senate I applications rose by 30 percent, leading to two-year wait times. Senate II saw a 60 percent increase in filings. Half of workplace harassment cases were sexual, while a quarter were racial.
