Vienna Names New Streets After Famous Figures

City Councilor Veronika Kaup-Hasler announces new street names honoring Jane Goodall, Tina Turner, and Nazi resistance fighters.

Vienna City Councilor for Culture Veronika Kaup-Hasler has announced new names for several streets, squares, and parks across the city. Notable additions include a square in the 22nd district named after Otto Schenk and Jane Goodall Street in Seestadt Aspern.

The Eibengasse quarter features new names for Elisabeth Orth, Peter Simonischek, Waltraut Haas, and Peter Rapp. Other honors include a promenade for Tina Turner, a park for Gloria-Theater founder Gerald Pichowetz, and the Regenbogensteg bridge in Margareten.

Significant historical figures are also recognized, including Nazi resistance fighters Käthe Sasso, Anna Peczenik, and Emilie Tolnay. The city further honored painter Soshana, writer Lore Segal, and singer Amalia Carneri, who was murdered in the Treblinka camp.
